Nowadays, the market is saturated with smartwatches and fitness trackers, different manufacturers have produced various models with different features and in different prices and spices. However, finding the right one for your preferences is easy and hard at the same time. Xiaomi Amazfit A1612B is a budget smartwatch that has GPS, fitness track and some basic smartwatch tech.

The Xiaomi Amazfit A1612B has a circular design, rather than a rectangular design on most of the smartwatches. It looks attractive and sleek. It has combined the sporty and elegant look seamlessly. Most of the people won’t even realize you are wearing a smartwatch, but if you want your smartwatch to be the first thing that people notice in you the Amazfit Pace is not for you.

The watch is just 56 grams and with the adjustable silicone band it is a joy to wear, you will forget that you are wearing it. The display is 3.4cm large, it is big enough to easily read and small enough to look like a watch. The display comes with a resolution of 320×300 that offers good detail and with its transflective tech you can easily use it out in the sun without any glare.

Despite having a budget price, the Xiaomi Amazfit Pace A1612B provides more features than you would expect, like the heart rate monitor, step tracker, sleep monitor, GPS tracker, music control, notifications from your phone and more. An amazing set of features, but the one that differentiates from the pack of budget smartwatches is the heart rate monitor, that provides a relatively accurate heart rate readings. You can also change the podcasts and music on your phone from the Pace smartwatch. You can receive calls, messages, and notifications, but you cannot interact with them in any way.

It works best as a fitness tracker, when you start your activity from the fitness menu, then however it measures every metric and synch them with your smartphone app and sends them directly there for you to check them out.
If you have decided to buy a smartwatch but don’t want to make a big buy, then the Xiaomi Amazfit Pace A1612B provides you the best smartwatch in that price category.

4. Motorola Moto 360 Sport

Best Fitness Android Smartwatch

The Motorola 360 Sport resembles to the good looks of the Moto 360, although it is the sporty version of that watch. It is rugged and durable it has GPS and many other features that should help you track your running sessions. It is a really progressive product but sometimes it feels lacking and a work in progress, but overall it is still one of the best smartwatches in the market based on its price, design and features.

As with the other Motorola smartwatches that are generally very stylish looking devices, the Moto 360 Sport follows suit. However, it is not as stylish as the original Moto 360 that looked almost science-fiction with its breathtaking design. The Moto 360 Sport is designed with function in mind, it is still a stylish item but it is more ordinary and has a simple look. It has a round screen and good dimensions. The strap is decent for its purpose, it has ventilation holes and the material is chosen especially for runners comfort.

The device has IP67 standard which means it is dust and splash/water resistant, however, it is not meant to be used while swimming, you can use it in the rain and in the shower comfortably. A feature that most buyers loved was that it didn’t really look like some other ridiculous fitness watches that you can’t wear anywhere else.

The display is very cleverly designed and it has two modes that it switches between seamlessly, it is called the AnyLight switching working due to the ambient light sensor. When you are actively using the device under normal light it looks like an ordinary LCD display, and when you are under strong sun and extraordinary brightness the display takes a transflective style look for better visibility.

Performance wise the Moto 360 Sport is pretty good, but not as close to other more dedicated fitness watches in the market. But you can easily track your workout goals, distance, calories, your pace, etc. Your data is automatically fed to the Moto Body app on your phone, from which you can check everything from your paths to heart rates throughout and pace throughout the workout.

3. Pebble Time Smartwatch

Best Classic Android Smartwatch

Our Ratings:

The Pebble Time is the successor of the worlds first successful smartwatch, the Pebble which is coined as such a device because it has amassed huge crowdfunding from Kickstarter. Of course, that device was not the perfect one, and after a while, Pebble went to Kickstarter for the Pebble Time crowdfunding and again it broke records. It has improved on everything that its predecessors offered, most notably the more quality materials and the new operating screen with a colored display.

There is a general tendency from smartwatch manufacturers to not put much focus on the design, while that may be changing lately, it is still a little hard to find a good smartwatch that doesn’t look like a wrist computer. The Pebble Time is constructed with metal mostly, but has some places that are built with plastic as well, there is some slight curve through its chassis that gives it an ergonomic look. The buttons are also made from plastic, which feels a little out of place, metal buttons would do better justice to the product.

For the display the Time still doesn’t embrace OLED or LCD panels, it sticks with e-paper again, but it is colorful this time. It may be a little lacking in sharpness and color compared to its competition but has a battery life that destroys the competition. Another advantage is that the screen is always on and visible even if you are not actively using it, making it look like a real watch. It doesn’t provide too many viewing angles but it is always visible when looked directly at even in direct sunlight.

The music control features are improved in the Pebble Time as it works very well with every music app and you can easily switch, play and pause at will. The app notifications are decently integrated and on android you can dial down and filter as to which notification should appear on your smartwatch for Androids.

The watch works with both Android and iOS devices, however, the experience is not the same between both. iPhones do not support the watch properly and there it limits the usefulness of the smartwatch.

To conclude, this is one of the most stylishly designed and one of the most simplistic and useful smartwatches on the market.

2. Garmin Fenix 3 HR

Best GPS Android Smartwatch

Our Ratings:

Garmin known manufacturer for designing quality and reliable GPS sport watches, smartwatches and pilot watches, has made the best GPS smartwatch yet, the Garmin Fenix 3 HR. Now with a heart rate sensor as well, packed together with all the Garmin features, the Fenix 3 even though it has a premium price, it is worth every penny.

Design wise the device looks very durable and made to last. It has a bold and sharp watch case that is combined with a rugged silicone strap. Interestingly, the device has a sophisticated and rugged look at the same time, you can wear it in the office, and in the mountains as well. The display is covered with Garmin’s Sapphire lens and has 5 buttons around it, also the whole case is water resistant of up to 10 atmospheres of pressure or 100 meters.

On the back of the watch there is the Garmin’s Elevate tech, an optical heart rate sensor that keeps track and logs your heart rate through the day. The heart rate feature is just scratching the surface the Fenix 3 HR has tons of features like showing the time, the day and date, sunset and sunrise times, as well as various sensors starting from the GPS, barometric altimeter, barometer, electronic compass, heart rate monitor accelerometer and a thermometer.

It basically is a fitness computer on your wrist it shows every stat that you may need to know from your workout such as the steps, calories burned, stairs climbed and many more. The latest software updates also support specialized legacy functions for different sports as running, cycling, swimming and many more, the number getting bigger with every update.

Furthermore, the device is perfectly compatible with Android and iOS devices, once connected the smartwatch can show every notification directly to your watch.

The wrist sensor has some drawbacks, it couldn’t take accurate heart rates in vigorous activities such as mountain biking on rough terrains or running sprints.

Other than that the device worked flawlessly every feature and design trick is excellently implemented, a job very well done.

If you are in the market for the best GPS based fitness smartwatch and you have a comfortable budget, then there is no other choice then the Garmin Fenix 3 HR.

1. Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

Best All-Round Android Smartwatch

Our Ratings:

Durability
100%
Quality

The best android smartwatch of 2019 in my opinion, is a smartwatch that combines value, features, design, versatility, and performance. The smartwatch that fulfills this criteria is the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier, its price is not nearly as high as the high-end smartwatches, but it offers more or less the same features as them, providing great value. Its main purpose is being a fitness tracker but it does every other job so well, it is easily the best in the market.

Coming in at 59grams the Gear S3 Frontier is not the lightest of smartwatches, nor the heaviest, but it certainly feels heavier than it should because of its size. However, the design is especially attractive in my opinion, with its stainless-steel case and the serrations on its rotating bezel, make it more functional and attractive. The watch comes with a black silicone strap that carries on the basic vibe, however, you can easily customize because you can attach any 22mm strap.

The device is very durable and built like a tank, on the front it has Gorilla Glass protection, and it has a MIL-SPEC-810G rating that guarantees that it can withstand drops of up to 5 feet. Additionally, the watch can easily be submerged up to 1.5m underwater for up to 30 minutes, not the best for water but better than none.

Samsung has used a 1.3-inch AMOLED display that is bright to use in even the brightest of suns, with a resolution of 360×360 pixels producing sharp details, while also producing vivid colors.

Interestingly Samsung has opted for its own Tizen operating system for the S3 Frontier. It took some time to adjust but the Tizen OS was very intuitive and easy to use, it provided lots of convenience and comfort. However, it doesn’t have as many apps as Android Wear, but everyday developers are optimizing their apps for the Tizen.

The Gear S3 Frontier is equipped with various sensors as an altimeter and barometer as well as GPS and heart-rate monitor. Via the Gear Fit app it tracks lots of variables and stats around your fitness and workouts.

With lots of other features and value the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is definitely the best smartwatch in the market.
