Which Is The Best Home Theater System For Small Rooms?
5. VIZIO SmartCast 5.1
It is a never-ending quest, trying to complete a home theater system, just as you bought your first 4K TV now you need to buy a home theater system to achieve the best surround sound experience in the comfort of your home and believe me, everything will be well worth it once, you finish everything. If you are shopping for a budget home theater system I would most likely recommend the excellent VIZIO SmartCast 5.1 system. With its affordable price, it delivers an adequate 5.1 system with separate satellites, a soundbar, and a wireless subwoofer. On top of that, it also comes with WiFi connectivity, SmartCat music streaming, Bluetooth and overall great sound quality. Without further ado, let’s take a further look.
First, off I should talk about what is in the package of this system. It comes with a 36-inch 3-channel soundbar, a wireless 5.2-inch subwoofer unit, and a pair of satellite speakers, and on top of that in the package, you will find a 3.5mm cable, HDMI cable, coax audio cable, stereo RCA to 3.5mm cable, power cords, digital optical cable, speaker wires, wall mount brackets with screws, a wall mount template, and the remote control complete with the user manual.
The soundbar looks pretty simple with its solid and minimalist design vibes, black rectangular with the cloth grille all around and silver accent on each side. You will also spot some LED indicators and some buttons for controlling the device, but it would be more intuitive to do that from the remote, which is one of the best in this price range by a margin. The satellites and the wireless subwoofer carry on the industrial and minimal vibes of the soundbar and will fit right into your living room design.
Coming to smart features the company is really very well interconnected with Google’s Smart Cast mobile app, and works pretty well with it, meaning that you won’t even have to use the remote control most of the time. This app lets you do anything with the device and configure everything to your liking so you get the best performance at your house.
Achieving the proper setup with the VIZIO SmartCast 5.1 is not that hard, since there are not a lot of parts, and you will get the device ready to go in no time. The sound performance of this system has its weaknesses, however, the pros outweigh the cons, most notably the true surround-sound experience, which I truly didn’t expect at this price range. The dialogues were also pretty clean and with slight tweaking from the app, you can achieve a great music performance, however, for sports and movies, it is already perfect. If you can’t afford a high-end home theater system, this is your best bet.
4. Enclave Audio CineHome HD 5.1
Home theater surround systems are perfect in my opinion and every house should have them in my opinion, however, running all the cables to five or more speakers and hiding them is a daunting task. However, the Enclave Audio CineHome HD 5.1 comes a super-smart package with a wireless connection, to its five speakers and the powerful subwoofer. The most interesting thing about this system is that each speaker lodges its amplifier and wireless receiver, however, you still need to connect them to a power source, which is still better than having to run cables from the center unit to the speakers individually. Let’s dive deeper into it.
The whole system works via the center speaker that also acts as the hub or the so-called Smart Center, which also has its drivers, an amp, and the wireless transmitter. The Enclave Audio CineHome HD 5.1, for wireless transmission utilizes the 5.2-5.8GHz band, and it also works as a home theater receiver doing all the decoding and processing, and it also has all the connectivity ports. To be exact this device does DTS 5.1 Digital Surround, Dolby Digital and Plus decoding, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Dynamic Range Control, Bluetooth and Analog processing. When it comes to connectivity it has 3 HDMI input ports, an HDMI output port, 3D and 4K passthrough, ARC port, a Digital Optical audio input, and 3.5mm audio port to complete the package.
The setup of the Enclave Audio CineHome HD 5.1 is pretty intuitive, as you have the Smart Center, Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear and Subwoofer units, just place them in their respective areas and connect them to a power source, and just turn on the Smart Center as they will connect automatically to each other and will be ready to go instantly.
In terms of sound and performance, the Enclave Audio CineHome HD 5.1 is pretty much excellent and it does deliver great surround sound experience just like it is intended to. For movies especially this system was perfect, and I was extremely pleased with the performance, as it could go as down as 30Hz in the frequency range to deliver a super deep experience. The music listening experience was beautiful as well, and I have no complaints about the performance of this device.
3. Logitech Z906 5.1
Next up we have a home theater system that will deliver excellent value for its price the Logitech Z906 5.1. I know that you wouldn’t expect to see Logitech in this list, however, the manufacturer has delivered an excellent option here with this super powerful package, rocking amazing build quality, coming in with 5 satellite speakers, subwoofer, and a central control unit to deliver a solid experience.
First off I have to state that this system was first intended for PC use, however, many users have tested this setup in their living rooms to see that it delivered a great performance. However, this system is not the most fitting for living room in terms of design since it rocks a little clunky and techy look, however, if you can hide or incorporate them with your rooms design than all the better you get one of the best home theater systems for your home. The satellites are angled slightly upwards and on the back, they have wall-mounting holes, and the center speaker is horizontally oriented and fits the general vibe of the system. The subwoofer is not very large with its cube shape and it has a side-firing design with its 8-inch driver and audio decoders, on top of that it also has a 165W amplifier in it.
The biggest selling point of the Logitech Z906 5.1 home theater system is the small control console, which is essentially a desktop unit that plugs int he back of the subwoofer and lets you switch between channels, swap sound modes, levels for each channel, and overall the volume, and you can do it from a distance with the included remote control.
This system has a frequency range that spans from 35Hz to 20kHz which is pretty optimal and each of the speakers has a 3-inch polished aluminum phase plug driver. Unfortunately, it couldn’t handle decoding for HD audio formats such as the Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio HD, but the standard Dolby Digital and DTS streams are decoded adequately.
The overall surround sound experience coming from this system was proper and very powerful delivering a great cinematic experience. I liked the bass which was pretty punchy and driving, the mids were also pretty clear as the dialogues sounded magnificent and the stringed instruments were marvelous. For the price, you definitely won’t find a better system.
2. Klipsch Reference Theater Pack w/ Pioneer VSX-LX303
If you want a great high-end package I would recommend the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack combined with the Pioneer VSX-LX303 Receiver, which delivers one of the best results but still without crossing the $1000 price. This system delivers a great stereo performance, with amazing levels of detail, richness, and in addition to that plenty of power coming through.
I should mention that despite being a pretty expensive package this one delivers plenty of sounds and performance for the money, on top of that the Pioneer receiver will allow you to upgrade your 5.1 system furthermore if you want to in the future. The Reference Theater Pack consists of four RTP satellite speakers, a horizontal RTP Center speaker, and an amazing R-8SWI subwoofer. The satellite speakers have 0.75-inch tweeters in them that are recessed into a Tractrix horn in a 90-degree in there to deliver a solid experience. The 3.5-inch woofer on the satellites has also been upgraded from its predecessor to deliver a spun-copper-colored IMG unit, which makes it very aesthetically pleasing. The 8-inch subwoofer is also a great addition to a nice wireless receiver for convenience.
The Pioneer VSX-LX303 is one of the best AV receivers you can buy in the market and I was glad to find it coupled with the Reference Theater Pack. This receiver can deliver DTS Play-Fi and has also built-in Chomecast to stream your music from various music streaming services. It also has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity to connect to home voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa. This receiver also does amazing tuning with the MCCAC Pro, for your speakers to get the best sound for your taste, and the Reflex Optimizer wth the Phase Control tech delivers a great reproduction environment to provide better imaging.
In the sound performance department, the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack delivered a perfect performance, especially for movies. As it handled dialogues and the scores perfectly, the direction was exact and the sound field was super accurately imaged. The tonal balance was a little forward and aggressive, but not too much to make it annoying, in retrospect sounds that were supposed to sound warm sounded that way, just amazing.
If you can afford this system it will be well worth its premium price.
1. Yamaha YHT-4930UBL 5.1
Coming to the top of the list we have the Yamaha YHT-4930UBL 5.1, which is the definite best home theater in a box system. Delivering amazing power, Bluetooth connectivity, 4 satellite speakers, subwoofer, center channel speaker, and an AV receiver unit that delivers amazing functionality, and one of the best Surround Sound performances in the market without a doubt.
In the design department, everything about this pack looks pretty functional and not touched up to appear shiny, just a low-key glossy finish with the Yamaha logo, and not much else. The subwoofer itself has a glossy finish as well and it has a side port for the bass, and the receiver is built from metal all around and has ventilation holes as well as an LED display on the front side. The whole system is designed to fit in, to every room design and in my opinion, this is one of the best choices for different design choices.
The total power of this system is about 725 watts which is amazing and the frequency range spans from 30Hz to 25kHz, meaning that it can deliver everything.
The receiver itself has more than 17 digital presets, and on top of that it supports resolution of up to 4K60p 4:4:4 and it is also compatible with all the modern codecs like the HLG, Dolby Vision, HDR10, and even BT 2020. On the back you will spot 4 HDMI in ports, an HDMI out port, an optical audio port, and many more.
In the sound performance department the Yamaha YHT-4930UBL 5.1 is pretty much perfect, delivering a superior movie-watching experience, during testing I forgot that I was testing and was just enjoying the experience, a true surround sound experience with tons of effects to make everything sound realistic, and the subwoofer completed its task without any problem just fantastic.
It is the definite best all-around performer, and it delivers the performance of home theater systems double its price.
