Things You Should Know Before Buying A Window Air Conditioner F0r Small Rooms
The most important thing you need to know when buying a window AC is the cooling capacity of it. This is more often than not measures with British Thermal Units or BTUs, and it measures the thermal energy per hour basis. For the best results, you have to buy a window air conditioner that is good for your room size, to ensure better efficiency and effectiveness. If you buy a window air conditioner with fewer BTUs than you need for your room, you will need to run the AC constantly, which will result in a lot of energy loss, while it will still be enough to cool the room properly. There are guidelines for this and you can check them out.
This is a very important thing you have to know about the window air conditioner you plan on buying. You need to know that most of these air conditioners are designed to fit into double-hung windows. But then again a lot of models can be installed into wall spaces with special mounting hardware which can be very useful if you don’t have enough or a lot of window space. With the window installation method, you need to be very exact as you will need to buy an air conditioner that fits your windows perfectly. Then again for the wall installation method, you will need to measure the space and have the appropriate kit for installation.
There are a lot of things you need to know about air conditioners, but in my opinion, energy efficiency rating is one of them. This is because these devices typically run for long hours through all summer season, meaning that you will have to think long term about this. For example, while you might find some affordable air conditioners, you might want to check out the energy efficiency rating, because the costs might get pretty high over time. That is why it is better to invest in a more expensive air conditioner that delivers a better efficiency rating that will allow you to save more overtime and justify the price.
Which Is The Best Window Air Conditioner For Small Rooms?
5. Friedrich Chill CP06G10B
The Quietest Option
The hot summer months are here and for those that still do not have an air conditioner but need one as soon as possible without spending a lot of money, I have the Friedrich Chill CP06G10B. This is the best option under $500 and it is also one of the quietest units out there. It is an ENERGY STAR qualified unit, with quiet operation, remote control, and super quick cooling capabilities.
I have to say that as a first impression I wasn’t impressed with the design of this window air conditioner, as it looks a bit bland and industrial. However, once installed it looks pretty clean and it fits into your room design smoothly. You will like how this one looks. The control panel of the unit is hidden beneath a mini door that is pretty useful if you children in the house. However, then again you have the remote control in the package that allows you to control it from far away. The Friedrich Chill CP06G10B offers three total cooling speeds and a fan-only function.
The installation process of the Friedrich Chill CP06G10B is pretty easy and it can be done in a short notice, and mind you this comes from a person that dreads the setup process of such devices. The whole thing weighs 60 pounds which is a bit heavy but you can install it in a window or through a wall. Once you find the right spot you can complete the whole thing in just 30 minutes. The instructions in the manual are very clear and straightforward making the whole thing easier. What I loved the most was that you can install the power cable on either side, depending on where you need it.
Based on its price I didn’t expect much from the Friedrich Chill CP06G10B but it delivered. IT is a 6,000 BTU unit meaning that it can cool a 250 square feet area efficiently, and it didn’t disappoint. I found out that it did the whole thing rather quickly and the Auto Air Sweep feature distributes the cool air through the whole room equally. In addition to that, the energy efficiency feature of this beast allows you to save a lot over time.
4. MIDEA EasyCool
Best For Small Spaces
For small to mid-sized spaces, you will need something in between, even if you think that low BTU air conditioners will do justice, you are better off with at least 8,000 BTU air conditioners, and one of the best in this category is the MIDEA EasyCool. This one is one of the most popular window air conditioners ever made since it delivers plenty of performance, features, quiet operation at a low price point. So let’s check it out.
Then again I should state that the MIDEA EasyCool comes in different powers ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 BTU, but today we are going to check out the 8,000 BTU version which is perfect for smaller spaces. I should start by saying that the MIDEA EasyCool measures about 18.5×15.7×13.4-inches in total, meaning that it requires 14-inches of window opening height. The unit itself weighs about 50 pounds.
The unit itself is not the most aesthetically pleasing since the front is covered mostly with grilles that are needed for the device to function properly. In the middle of two grille panels is the control panel that has some soft to touch buttons and a number display for the temperature settings. However, in the package, you will spot the remote control as well which is very useful overall.
I found out that the MIDEA EasyCool will refresh and cool your room int a quick manner. On top of that, it works rather quietly at 59 decibels at the lowest setting. In addition to this, the installation process was rather quick and easy so you will not need to call a professional to do it. The best for small spaces.
3. Midea MAW12V1QWT
Best Mid-Range Option
Next up on our list, we have one of the most interesting air conditioners in the market, the Midea MAW12V1QWT, or as it is most often called the Midea U-Inverter. This is is because this air conditioner has the revolutionary U shape that allows you to close and open your window like you normally would. On top of that, it is very quiet and has tons of power. The best mid-range option you can buy.
Like I said the biggest selling point of the Midea MAW12V1QWT is its futuristic shape that allows you to get better functionality of this device. The design also blocks outside noise and the noise of the compressor which delivers all the noise pollution. This design allows the device to function at just 42decibells.
The installation process is rather easy and quicky. Just install a quick-snap bracket that is included in the package, the unit bracket, and secure the adjustable sidearms and you are good to go. Don’t worry though this has anti-theft features as well so you can attach a lock to prevent it from being raised from the outside.
The cooling prowess of the Midea MAW12V1QWT comes from the 12,000 BTU cooling capacity which can cool up spaces at least 550 square feet large and it does so with 35 percent less energy consumption. It also has WiFi connectivity with the MideaAir smartphone companion app and you will have a good night’s sleep with this one.
2. LG LW8016ER
The runner up on this list is none other than the LG LW8016ER which is one of the best window air conditioners in the market. This window air conditioner, has a great cooling capacity, quiet operation, energy efficiency, tons of interesting features, such as the timer and different speeds, and a lot more. On top of that here you have the LG quality which hasn’t disappointed anyone yet. A must consider air conditioner, definitely one of the finest around, let’s take a closer look.
In terms of design and aesthetics, there is not much to say about the LG LW8016ER which is a bit boring and industrial in terms of looks. It looks like most window air conditioners out there, a design that hasn’t been updated in a long time because it has worked so well in terms of functionality. After all, if it can’t cool your room why bother with an air conditioner. It has an all-white body, which gives a brighter look to your room. You will spot the grille on the front and top of it on the right side you will see a small number display that shows you the set temperature.
There you will also spot the soft-touch controls that allow you some functionality. However, you won’t use them much since the remote control is pretty much exceptional, but just in case you lose it the on-board controls are a good second plan. I should mention that the LG LW8016ER is a large device measuring about 19.57×19.37×12.36-inches in total, so if you have that amount of space on your window you are safe to go. The LG LW8016ER has a lot of features including the 8,000 BTU cooling capacity. Based on only this you will know that this unit is capable of cooling a room up to 340 square feet. While it will also depend on the ceiling height, you should be pretty safe up to 300 square feet.
The LG LW8016ER has three fan speed settings you can choose with a 3-way adjustment. This allows you to control how much noise the unit makes, and on the lowest setting, it produces just 52 decibels of sound which is great overall. There is also the auto-restart feature, which works so well against power breaks. It has washable filters and 24-hour timer so you can control it, however, you want. With its great cooling prowess and an array of features, I think that the LG LW8016ER is an exceptional device.
1. LG LW1817IVSM
On top of our list, we have one of the most impressive window air conditioners I have ever seen, the LG LW1817IVSM. We see one more model from LG because the company knows how to deliver quality, performance, and reliability, and this one is top of the crop. I should state that this air conditioner has a super large cooling capacity, tons of features, quiet operation, control from your phone, works with voice assistants such as Google Assitant and Alexa and so much more. If you are looking for a premium device this is it.

So you have to be a bit careful about the placement of this air conditioner unit. But on the other hand, the LG LW1817IVSM is extremely aesthetically pleasing and looks very refined. Streamlined and contemporary the aesthetics of the LG LW1817IVSM are simply unmatched. It will fit into any room design and it is pretty cool overall. On the top right-hand side, you will see the simple control panel with soft-touch buttons, there you will see the functions with LED indicators and a small display for showing you the set temperature of the unit. However, I reckon you won’t use it much since it has an LCD remote control that adds a lot of functionality to the device. But that is not all since this device has the SmartThinQ Technology of LG that allows you to connect the unit to your home WiFi network and use the companion app to control its functions. This also allows you to use voice assistants and integrate the air conditioner to your smart home system.
For cooling performance, the LG LW1817IVSM utilizes the Dual Inverter Compressor feature that allows you to save up on energy bills, for up to 25 percent more than the Energy Star certification.
